BELOW TAKEN FROM THE MALAMUTE STANDARD
• Eyes:
The eyes are obliquely placed in the skull. Eyes are brown, almond shaped and of medium size. Dark eyes are preferred. Blue eyes are a disqualifying fault.
Head And Skull:
Nose, lips and eye rims' pigmentation: Is black in all coat colours except reds. Brown is permitted in red dogs. The lighter streaked "snow nose" is acceptable.
MY THOUGHTS ON THE LACK OF INFORMATION GIVEN ON THE REDS
RED AND WHITE malamute is a stunning dog that is given now where near the appreciation in the show ring that it deservers.
I blame this solely on the lack of information given for them in their Alaskan Malamute standard. As I have highlighted above.
A red malamute will NEVER have a dark eye, NO NEVER this is due to not having black pigment.
If a red has black pigment, I’m sorry its not a red, it’s a sable no ifs no butts.
A red will only have a brown nose.
The wording IN THE ALASKAN MALAMUTE STANDARD SHOULD BE CHANGED FOR THE REDS FROM Brown is permitted in red dogs TO
A red will only have a Brown nose AND will have a light eye in some reds the colour similar to its coat colour |
